Showcase Sunday (#20)

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits & Tea. It's an opportunity to share the books you may have bought, borrowed, been sent or gifted. Are you taking part in a similar meme? Feel free to leave a link!

Happy Sunday, everyone! Since my last Showcase post, I shared reviews of Prodigy by Marie Lu, Hooked by Liz Fichera, Hysteria by Megan Miranda, Pantomime by Laura Lam, and The Gathering Dark by Christine Johnson. The last couple of weeks have been a little strange for me, books-wise, as I wasn't expecting or planning to buy anything new, but seem to have managed to add considerably to my pile anyway. Oops.

Legacy of the Clockwork Key (The Secret Order, #1) Reboot (Reboot, #1) The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2) Insomnia (The Night Walkers, #1)

Legacy of the Clockwork Key by Kristin Bailey
Reboot by Amy Tintera
The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa
Insomnia by J.R. Johansson

According to my sidebar, I'm supposedly currently reading Legacy of the Clockwork Key. I honestly don't have much to say about it yet despite being a good portion of the way in now. I seem to have lost the ability to form opinions with this book, which may or may not be a bad thing. (Or perhaps I'm simply forgetting to concentrate). We'll see.

The End Games Heist Society (Heist Society, #1) Uncommon Criminals (Heist Society, #2) Born Of Illusion

The End Games by T. Michael Martin
Heist Society by Ally Carter
Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter
Born of Illusion by Teri Brown

I also received a brilliant Maggie Stiefvater prize pack this week from Jessica at Booked Up! It includes signed copies of two of my favourite books ever, The Scorpio Races and The Raven Boys. Thank you, Jess! I've featured both books in previous hauls, but I'm glad to finally have my own signed copies.

I blame HarperTeen, Simon Pulse, Flux and Harlequin Enterprises Australia for fuelling my addiction this week (and thank them for the review copies!). Those Ally Carter books look a little at odds with everything else here, but I'm strangely eager to get started on the Heist Society series soon after the influx of positive reviews for the third book, Perfect Scoundrels. I could do with something fun. The Eternity Cure and Reboot are two others I look forward to reading - the latter was a Waiting on Wednesday choice of mine a while back and I really hope it delivers!

As always, if you have put together your own book haul post, leave a link in the comments and I'll visit as soon as I can.

  1. I blame HarperTeen for my week, too. And thank them. :D I mulled over Reboot, but decided against it in the end. I will probably regret it.

    1. I did, yes. I know the copy up at the moment appears to be for Australian users only, but I gave it a try anyway and it worked.

  5. I guess we can expect a mixed review of Legacy of the Clockwork Key. Hopefully you lean toward the good side of your opinion. Born of Illusion looks awesome. I don't know why but when I saw it, it reminded me of Oz. It might be the typing. Have fun reading!

I'm a little hesitant to start Legacy...the reviews so far haven't been very ah..encouraging, but I *really* hope you'll like it so maybe I'll feel the need to read it :D Happy Reading!!<3

  15. Oh no! That doesn't sound good. I was looking forward to Legacy of the Clockwork Key as well.

I'm torn about reading The Eternity Cure when it's released. On the one hand I like the plot...and Kanin. ;) But I wasn't really fond of the mc or the romance.

    Great haul. ^^

  17. Why has everyone received The Eternity Cure this week?! I am in pain over here!
The Heist Society novels are amazing, and so much better than the Gallagher Girls books. I think they're aimed at older readers, so that might be why. You'll finally get to meet Hale! Yay!
    Insomnia's cover is so spooky!
    Happy reading! :)

  21. Yay for The Eternity Cure Sam, it's been sitting there on my Kindle taunting me to read it straight away, but it's taking so much restraint to hold back, I think I will have to make a start on it in the next few days for sure. Also I'm so glad you picked up Ally's Heist series, it's definitely has a lot of fun and mystery involved. I also can't wait to see what you make of Reboot, I hope Harper accepts my request, because it sounds absolutely fantastic! Happy reading! :)

  23. Wow. This is a great haul, Sam. All these books sounds really interesting and fantastic. And yes, definitely yay for The Eternity Cure! I'm still not requesting any arcs right now (still so busy) but arghh, I want to get my hand on that one. Haha! I've heard quite a lot of good things about the Heist Series! I might go check them out soon. Hope you enjoy all these awesome books, Sam! Happy reading. :)

  24. I am dying to read Reboot and the Heist Society books, I love Ally Carter's Gallagher series.

  25. You got The Eternity Cure! I won't be approved because it's only for Aussie users and for some odd reason they'll approve UK people, as well. Did you get The Indigo Spell through them, too? If you're planning on reading that, you might want to check and see if it's still up there. I got Insomnia as well. Let's hope we both enjoy it. Enjoy your reads, Sam. :)

    1. I know some people in the US who have been approved, so it might be worth a try anyway if you are interested. :) And I'll buy or borrow my own copy of The Indigo Spell. I'm not too interested in reviewing it at the moment, but thanks for the heads up.

  39. I didn't even think to apply to the Australian publishers for The Eternity Cure or The Indigo Spell as I didn't think I'd be approved. I got the Eternity Cure from the UK pubs. And like you, I prefer to buy the Indigo Spell because I don't want to review it either. Reboot sounds really good but I'm going to wait to see some review first. I'm not requesting anything that I'm not really sure about at the moment. Happy reading hun, I hope you enjoy all your books.

  40. Aw, thanks for the lovely mention, Sam! I really appreciate it! And I'm so happy that you like your prize. :D

Also, you have an amaaaazing haul this week! Everyone seems to be getting The Eternity Cure lately, and I'm sooo excited to read that book! It's obviously going to be fantastic though, c'mon, it's Kagawa!

Your new Heist Society books look brilliant. I really enjoyed Ally Carter's previous series, Gallagher Girls, but still need to catch up on this new series. I adore the covers - girl-with-big-sunglasses? Yes! ;)

Enjoy all of your new books, Sam. I'll definitely be checking out your reviews! :)

  49. Those publishers are SO bad for our weak-willed spirits, Sam. ;) I read about 100 pages of Clockwork Key and DNFd it--it's just not the book for me, either. But I'm sure it will have its share of fans. So lovely you won the Stiefvater pack, though! What a great prize.
