Waiting on Wednesday (#13)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog feature hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine which spotlights future releases that we may be eagerly anticipating. Here is what I am waiting on this week:

Title: Magisterium
Author: Jeff Hirsch
Publisher: Scholastic
Release Date: October 2012
ADD ON GOODREADS
On one side of the Rift is a technological paradise without famine or want. On the other side is a mystery.

Sixteen-year-old Glenn Morgan has lived next to the Rift her entire life and has no idea of what might be on the other side of it. Glenn's only friend, Kevin, insists the fence holds back a world of monsters and witchcraft, but magic isn't for Glenn. She has enough problems with reality: Glenn's mother disappeared when she was six, and soon after, she lost her scientist father to his all-consuming work on the mysterious Project. Glenn buries herself in her studies and dreams about the day she can escape. But when her father's work leads to his arrest, he gives Glenn a simple metal bracelet that will send Glenn and Kevin on the run---with only one place to go.

Jeff Hirsch is the author of The Eleventh Plague, which I haven't yet read myself, and if not for the fact Suzanne Collins had called it a great book, I probably wouldn't have been drawn to it at all. Magisterium, however, doesn't need praise from Suzanne Collins for it to intrigue me. The cover alone is wonderful but that description is what has really entranced me. It sounds like a good mix of science fiction and (possibly) fantasy. In other words, my type of book. Do you like the sound of this?

  8. I don't usually read books that don't have romance (sorry, I'm a sucker for them!), but I do sometimes, and science fiction and mystery are genres that fascinate me. I don't think I'm that in love with the cover, but the summary sounds good :)

  9. This blurb sounds really interesting. (I quite like the colors on the cover as well!) I am currently about halfway through the audiobook of The Eleventh Plague. So far, it is entertaining but it isn't really wowing me, you know? I'm hoping that there is some big-time action coming up. I had never even heard of this one!

  13. Sam..you know, the last few (possibly 6) books I've added to my to-read list on goodreads are due to either your WoW post or Cover Love posts! If you keep finding all these amazing books, I'm literally going to die from the amount of books I have to read :) hahaa Anyway...this one sounds fantastic! Will definitely be checking this one out :)

  17. Ooo, nice! I have this one on my list, but I hadn't seen this particular cover yet. This mysterious Rift thing makes me laugh, though, I sort of picture a big giant ditch that Glenn ends up falling into at some point, hah!

  24. Oh, this is the first time I see this book! The cover doesn't exactly draw me (I'm too fond of pretty dress in cover LOL), but THE BLURB! I love the blurb, it sounds very interesting! Thank you for telling us about this book, Sam! I think should read The Eleventh Plague if Suzanne Collins said that it's great. :)

  26. Great pick, Sam. Although, I can't say I like the cover very well. :)

  27. Suzanne Collins doesn't support books all that often (not that I've noticed, anyway), so that alone makes me want to read this so badly. And the cover is abslutely stunning.

  28. THis sounds SO COOL. Really intrigued... and I LOVE the cover... except for the face and hair which are just... weird, honestly :S

    ... no?

ANYWAY! GREAT pick. I can't remember where I saw this one before, but it sounds amazing!
